Investing in real estate with an IRA through a Self Directed IRA using the INSIDE method is one way to diversify your IRA holdings. Many people have done it with varying degrees of satisfaction. Applying the INSIDE method of investing an IRA in real estate requires that title be held by your IRA/trustee, it cannot be in your name. There are clearly defined IRS restrictions and requirements that come with this type of ownership.
